June 1, 2011 . . . Waterford and Westbound on the Erie Canal
Don and Theresa Miller, GREAT ESCAPE, were kind enough to see us off as we departed Waterford. They stood on the lock wall and wished us well on our Westward journey. They, GREAT ESCAPE, will depart Waterford in the next day or so.
We all have our jobs. Charlie secures the bow, is the bow line-handler; Captain Bonnie is driving SONATA to the next lock . . .
In one lock, let out to go to another . . . stay alert on the canal.
A deer jumped into the water ahead of SONATA and just swam to the other side of the canal.
Near the end of the day . . . we nonetheless pressed on a little further to make just one more lock. We completed Locks 2 through 17 and arrived at Little Falls at about 2200 (10:00pm) to find BLUE MAX IV and others waiting for our arriva.
