SONATA commenced the Great American LOOP for the third time May 21, 2015, and, crossed her wake, completed the third adventure May 18, 2016. This Blog is that story. SONATA's Second Loop was from May 19, 2011, to May 7, 2012. Captains Charlie and Bonnie Burke aboard their Grand Banks 42 started their FIRST Loop May 25, 2007, and, after 3 countries, 18 states, and some 8,000 miles the trip was completed by returning to homeport, Ocean Marine in Portsmouth, VA, May 24, 2008.

May 27 - April 3, 2012 . . . Miami to New Smyrna Beach
A slow trip up the waterway to Fort Lauderdale; passing the beautiful homes on the side of the waterway.
SONATA docked in Bill and Marty's (our boat neighbors while in Key West) back yard on Bayview Drive in Fort Lauderdale. They kindly offered the space so that we could refuel from Anchor Petroleum which delivers by truck; we took on 400 gallons of diesel at $3.99 a gallon. Afterwards we all went out to dinner for a terrific evening.
Out the narrow channel to the ICW SONATA started toward Delray Beach with a diversion into the large boating world of Fort Lauderdale.
A big one, PARAFFIN, owned by Yankee Candle Co. . . .
SEVEN SEAS, Steven Speilberg's boat which cost some $200M, is 282' long, rooms for 12 guests and a crew of 26; swanky.
CAKEWALK . . . ownership not found.
The nicest, most attractive boat we saw, VAJOLIROJA owned by Johnny Depp. Has room for 11 guests and a crew of 9, 156' long registered in the Marshall Islands.
Ending our tour we looked again at the Fort Lauderdale ship channel to the Atlantic . . . not our choice for today.
We stopped in Delray and Bonnie spent the day with Elaine.
Then the stop at the Palm Beach Municipal Marina to meet with friends.
John, Bonnie, and Bill
Bill and Paula, in residence at Palm Beach
All at dinner, Palm Beach Sail Club
Lunch stop in Juniper . . . a second "loop" stop here recommended by Charlie's sister Ann.
Eagles seen along the way.
You must read the "speed-signs" carefully.
NASA well off in the distance, on the coast.
We stopped in Melbourne Harbor and found a "reworked" Grand Banks. Afraid the "remade" design is not attractive......
On the way to New Smyrna Beach the porporise played along side; they are a joy to watch.
Our first visitors in New Smyrna Beach, Jimmy and Yvonne, and, Judy and Ted.
